Hear Me Roar Event to Prevent Sexual Assault at U of Delaware

By February 4, 2015Uncategorized

This past weekend I had the honor to head to the University of Delaware and talk all things girl power at a half day Hear Me Roar event. The event started with my co-author, Lindsey Smith, heading up the conversation of self confidenceFullSizeRender. Then we moved into a discussion around body confidence and what influences our opinions of ourselves.

We all enjoyed a healthy lunch together, and we even had Henry the seeing eye dog join us for the day.

After lunch, I led the discussion around safety on social media and safety while dating. We talked and shared about domestic violence, date rape and all forms of sexual assault.

Right before we get physical, I go over my ABC’s of self defense and talk about how awareness, boundaries and communication are the first step in keeping yourself out of dangerous situations and communicating strength and confidence. Then we get down to business. Self defense is the sweet spot where young women can have some fun while learning serious life-saving skills. These girls kicked punched and gouged their way to a lighter and brighter future!

I am eternally grateful to the University of Delaware for bringing us there for this incredible day. I loved meeting the girls and hearing their stories and answering their questions to the best of my ability.
