Blood Orange Anti-inflammatory Smoothie Recipe

By February 7, 2017Recipes

It’s true. Blood oranges go really well in margaritas! But, that is not all they are good for. I recently bought a ripe bag from Trader Joe’s and came up with this delicious smoothie that is packed with immune-boosting Vitamin C. I’ve added coconut oil to help balance blood sugar levels and to add anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties as well. Coconut oil and turmeric contain anti-inflammatory properties as well! This is a great post workout smoothie or breakfast for the fitness enthusiast.

Here is my Blood Orange Anti-inflammatory Smoothie Recipe. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1/2 banana
2 peeled blood oranges
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon Vanilla protein powder (plant based protein like Vega)
1/2 cup coconut milk (I used canned light coconut milk)
Handful of ice
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon turmeric (optional)

Directions: Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.

This sounds amazing Jen, however we dislike bananas and it seems they are an obligatory smoothie ingredient, any alternative suggestions?

Yes, my dearest Jill! You can substitute banana for avocado to get the same creamy texture. You can also use yogurt as well!
