International Women’s Day #BeBoldForChange Contest

By March 8, 2017Uncategorized

International Women’s Day is a day to reflect on the progress women have made, to call for change and to celebrate women in our lives who have inspired us to be better humans. It’s celebrated on March 8th and is a time to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.

This year’s theme is #BeBoldForChange.

For me, it’s impossible to acknowledge just one woman who has inspired me throughout my life. There are so many. When narrowed down I have come up with the following short list:

IMG_4307 2My mom: She raised me to be very independent, strong and to get my education because “no one can ever take that away from you.” She was right about that and I appreciate all of the lessons she has taught me and continues to teach me.

IMG_4309My sister: She always has my back. She is also the first person in our extended family to become a physician. She made it happen entirely on her own and we are all so proud of her. Go Julia!

My graTKD 050ndmother: (the white-haired lady teaching us Tai Chi) My mom’s mom would travel to Europe without my grandfather because he didn’t like to travel. Even on a tight budget she would make it happen and she showed all 30-plus grandchildren that you can be a loving wife, mother and grandmother and still have a life of your own. She also started practicing Tai Chi in her late 70’s and was teaching it into her 90’s! She was truly a badass!

Oprah Winfrey: I’m sure many people can agree that Oprah has changed the lives of many women for the better. She has created an entire brand around empowering women. She is even more so inspiring because she had such a rough start at life and she pursued her dreams anyway, broke down gender barriers in the media and is the baddest boss-lady I can think of!

Screen Shot 2017-03-07 at 2.27.53 PMMalala Yousafzai: Who wins the Noble Peace Prize at 17 years old? This woman! Malala stood for girls being educated in Pakistan and got the attention of the Taliban who sent one of it’s men to shoot Malala on her school bus. She wound up with three bullets in her head. She not only survived but thrived and carried on her mission to support female education in all parts of the world. She is a true she-ro!

Now it’s your turn. We want to know which woman has inspired you the most?

I’ve teamed up with Mace Brand for a big giveaway contest! One lucky winner will win a basket of empowerment goodies from Mace Brand (think pepper sprays and personal safety)!

Contest rules:

  1. Post a photo of a woman who has truly inspired you to be a better person in some way to your Instagram or Twitter accounts and tell us why she is so amazing.
  2. Make sure you are following both @jenncassetta and @macebrand and tag us in the post.
  3. The contest will run until Thursday, March 9th at midnight and a winner will be selected randomly.

Good LUCK! I can’t wait to see all the powerful women you choose.
