3 Tips for Thriving Through Long Work Days

I have way too many friends and clients that work really long hours. I’m talking like 12 hour work days for weeks at a time. Some of them have even accepted this as their norm and even work through weekends. Are you one of them? Or maybe a student who is under intense pressure and has to sit through long presentations followed by hours of studying.

All done while sitting.

The stress on the mind is one thing, that I will address in upcoming blogs, but for today I just want to talk about the stress that long work/school days can have on the body.

More often than not, I find that my clients (both teens and adults) are dehydrated and they don’t even know it. One simple way to know if your body is in a constant state of dehydration is to check the color of your pee. The darker yellow it is, the more dehydrated you are. You should be drinking enough water to keep your pee clear (unless you are taking B vitamins). In the video, I’ll explain how much water to drink and what other beverages are screwing up your hydration, and therefore, you energy levels.

Many of us make poor nutrition decisions when we’re under stress at work or at school. Skipping meals is just as stressful on the body as filling it with junk. In the video I will give you the most important food group to focus on for energy and balanced blood sugar levels.

Sitting for long hours can wreak havoc on the lower back.

If you are sitting at a desk for most of the day, your hip flexors are in a constant flexed position and can become very tight over time. This can then lead to tight hamstrings and calves, and strain on the lower back. Watch the video for a great tip to help release tension in your hip flexors, hamstrings and calves. In the video I use a Mobot, but you can also use a foam roller, tennis ball or lacrosse ball. But I will tell you, the Mobot ROCKS!

So, whether you’re a student and sitting through long lectures and hitting the library for all-nighters OR a work-a-holic in Corporate America or you work for yourself, try these few tips from the video and notice if your energy levels increase. Your body will thank you, I promise! And your productivity can increase as well with all of that newfound clarity and energy.

PS – WHY was I in a hotel room filming this you ask? Because I was at a 4 day Brendon Burchard seminar thinking: how do most people sit for so long for so many hours a day?!?
