Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month

April is usually a big month of travel for me. I speak at college campuses around the country, mostly to sorority women, on sexual assault awareness and prevention.

This year, is obviously quite different, with the stay at home orders and quarantine life. But just because we are not holding in person events and universities are practicing distance learning, I didn’t want the month to go by and not talk about this extremely important topic. 1 in 4 college aged women, will be the victim of sexual assault during their college years. We can’t let this be swept under the rug.

This year, I teamed up with SABRE safety products to bring you the video below, in hopes to spark conversation around sexual assault, so this topic can’t go back to hiding in the shadows like it did for so many years.

Watch the video below with your sorority sisters, your daughters, your friends and have a chat afterward to see what comes up. It’s important that we:

Create and hold space for survivors to share their experiences (if they want), to believe them and to help them get the help they need. RAINN (Rape Abuse Incest National Network), is the best resource out there to help survivors of sexual assault get free, confidential counseling and help with reporting the crime.

It’s also important that we empower ourselves with the tools like mental and physical self defense so we can avoid danger when possible, set boundaries and communicate them powerfully around predatory behavior.

The third important step, I think is important to all, is to learn some actual self defense. How to use your body as a weapon, where to strike and how to get out of chokes and holds. You can learn all of that and more in my online She Warrior Self Defense course, from home! You can use code (WARRIORLOVE) for $20 off the cost of the course and have access to it so you can practice your moves over and over again and become the butt-kicking machine you want to be.

To hear more, I’ll be going live on Instagram with Brittany Piper, sexual violence expert and survivor, at 2pm PT/ 5pm ET. Be sure to follow me on Instagram so you can get in on the conversation.
