Misogyny is not dead, unfortunately. It’s not always as blatant as it is in this video. You may deal with it at work in insidious ways like getting passed over for a well deserved promotion or raise or having your ideas stolen and repackaged. Other times it’s more blatant and comes in the form of verbal and even physical attacks.
As a woman who teaches self defense (a mostly male dominated industry) I am bombarded with it. Luckily, I’m clear on what I stand for. I stand for women’s safety and empowerment. And therefore, I can block this type of attack without it getting in the way of my mission to teach others to do so as well.
If you ever receive comments that are misogynistic, harassing or a downright threat to your safety, complete the following steps. Cyberbullying is NOT ok.
1. Screenshoot the comments as soon as you see them. Sometimes they are automatically flagged and deleted by the platform.
2. Save them in a file. Always save evidence because you just never know.
3. Do NOT respond. These trolls want your attention. Don’t give it to them.
4. Block. Report. Delete.
5. If there is an actual threat to your safety than call your local police precinct and file a report.
Here are the top 5 misogynistic comments I’ve received on my self defense videos.
