Jenn’s Top Books for Spiritual Growth

Being empowered emotionally and spiritually are just as important as physical empowerment. There are plenty of ways to expand our spiritual horizons, from podcasts to seminars but reading is still my favorite. These are my top 7 books for spiritual growth, in no particular order and I can honestly say, they have all changed the way I perceive and experience life, love and happiness.

I Can See Clearly Now by Wayne Dyer

Honestly, every book by Wayne Dyer would be on this list. No spiritual guide has ever resonated with me as much as Wayne. I was lucky enough to see him speak in person and share that experience with my Dad. I’m forever grateful for that.

In this memoir by best-selling self-help advocate Wayne Dyer, the author shares formative experiences that shaped him throughout his life. He recounts how every fork and twist in his journey “are all spectacular threads in the tapestry” of his life. Not only does this book share an intimate look into the author’s life, it helps readers on their own path to spiritual enlightenment.

The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire by Deepak Chopra

I learned so much about alignment in this book. After reading it, I’m able to quickly feel when my actions, words or behaviors are out of alignment with the person I really want to become and be. It’s a really powerful book if you’re looking to work toward any goal in your life.

Through specific tools and exercises in this book, Deepak Chopra shows readers how to create the magnificent life we all deserve. When you connect with the underlying field of infinite possibilities, you’re able to achieve the spontaneous fulfillment of desire.

The Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav

Award-winning author Gary Zukav writes clearly and elegantly about emerging values of the spirit in this transformative book. He explains how we are shifting from external power to the pursuit of authentic power, and how infusing our lives with reverence, compassion, and trust bring us meaning and purpose.

I couldn’t put this book down! This is also one of Oprah’s favorite books. Need I say more? Read more about The Seat of the Soul on Thrift Books.

A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson

Williamson shows readers how love is a potent force in our lives and is the key to inner peace. By practicing love daily, we can make our lives more fulfilling and create a more peaceful, loving world for the future.

This book was pivotal for me and includes one of my favorite quotes of all time from Marianne:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

Make sure you have a box of tissues before reading this book. This book moved me to tears and made me question my mortality more than anything I’ve ever read. I read it after my father passed away very unexpectedly from cancer and it helped me exponentially on my grieving journey. I recommend it to anyone has lost a loved one or dealing with a sick partner, friend or family member.

Paul Kalanithi’s memoir asks: What makes life worth living in the face of death? As Kalanithi transitions from medical student, to neurosurgeon, to a patient battling cancer and a new father, he finds hope and beauty against impossible odds.

The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer

Michael Singer’s book helps us let go of painful thoughts and memories that prevent us from achieving happiness. In this book, readers will discover the source of fluctuations of your inner energy. In doing so, you can free yourself from habits and patterns that limit your consciousness.

He actually has two wonderful books that I read back to back. This one and The Surrender Experiment. Both are excellent. Both are keys to remembering that we are more than just flesh and bones. We are spiritual beings and we can adjust our thoughts and connect with our hearts to others and become better humans.

Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Joe Dispenza

We all have the power to create the reality that we want to live. In this book, Joe Dispenza combines various scientific fields to bridge the gap between science and spirituality and show readers that our lives are what we make them, and we can make them anything.

Zing! This book has transformed me on a deep level. I have more faith in myself after reading this book and doing the meditations he recommends.  I notice less worry about the future and I now feel more in control of it, without feeling like I have to control it. If you’re ready for a big transformation in your thoughts, beliefs and your life, read this book now.

You might have noticed that most of my favorite books for spiritual and personal growth are by male authors, except for A Return to Love. I’m currently writing a book to bring more female voices to this category! Stay tuned for the launch in August, 2022!
